Celebrating Tradition and Family at JAM Kids House

At JAM Kids House, we believe that the best learning happens when children are surrounded by a warm, family-style environment that encourages curiosity and joy. As a trusted bilingual nursery in the heart of Punnawithi, our mission is to provide a nurturing space where infants and young children can explore the world through play and meaningful interaction.

Chinese New Year holds a special place in the hearts of the Thai-Chinese community. In Thailand, this festival is far more than just a change of the calendar; it is a sacred time for family reunions and honoring one’s roots. It represents a fresh start, prosperity, and most importantly, the strength of the family unit—values that we hold dear in our daily care at the nursery.

Learning Through Tradition: Our Festive Activities

This year, our little ones dove headfirst into the spirit of the Lunar New Year with hands-on activities designed to stimulate both their minds and their creative spirits.

Crafting Red Lanterns

The children spent the morning creating their own vibrant red lanterns, a timeless symbol of the festival intended to drive away bad luck and welcome a bright future.

  • Developmental Benefit: Beyond the cultural significance, this craft is a powerhouse for fine motor skill development. As tiny hands fold, glue, and assemble their lanterns, they are strengthening the small muscles in their fingers and hands.
  • Focus and Concentration: Following the steps to complete a project from start to finish helps improve concentration and patience, giving our students a sense of pride and accomplishment in their work.

Connecting with Family Roots

We also held a special session where children placed pictures of their own family members into a commemorative display, connecting their personal lives with the “Family Day” aspect of the holiday.

  • Developmental Benefit: For children at this age, understanding their place within a family is crucial for emotional security and social development.
  • Cultural Awareness: By linking their own parents and siblings to the traditions of Chinese New Year, children learn to value their heritage and understand the concept of community and belonging from a very early age.

Splashing Into the Future: Songkran is Coming!

While we are still enjoying the red and gold of the New Year, we are already looking forward to our next big celebration: Songkran!

Get ready for some wet and wild fun as we set up a swimming pool for the children to enjoy the Thai New Year in the most playful way possible. Our Songkran party will focus on traditional water play, teaching the children about the significance of the festival through laughter, cooling splashes, and interactive learning.
